“Go big or go home,” an expression certainly taken to heart at Lytro when they decided to scale their revolutionary light field technology from hand-held still cameras to a full cinematic motion picture camera. Boasting a staggering 755 megapixel sensor recording 300 frames per second, while soaking up as much as 400Gb per second of data, these specs promised to foster a paradigm shift in the motion picture industry. Live action can now be captured directly into CGI space, rendering green screen technology obsolete. Unveiling this camera to the world, Lytro tasked Spanner with designing and fabricating the massive, articulating housing as a one-off working prototype, including performance demands for vibration-, dust- and light-free interior on a structure supporting both the huge sensor and the 100-pound movable lens assembly.
