It’s happened to all of us: out of toilet paper at the most inconvenient moments, never a graceful experience. The same can be said of countless household necessities we take for granted until we run out. The clever minds at Target’s San Francisco IT Innovation Center conjured a cloud-based infrastructure whereby these items might magically appear on your doorstep before you even noticed you were nearly out. Taking the first steps towards deploying the Fetch service, Target enlisted Spanner to invent robust, low-power devices for monitoring & communicating consumption of paper towel, liquid hand soap, and yes, toilet paper, with zero input required from users.
